We knew that this was coming. Eventually, the Democrats would have to try to alter the news cycle. They can’t have people talking about their catastrophic failures in Afghanistan. CNN is always more than happy to carry the water in these instances. Anonymous sources are reporting on the matter, as the January 6 committee that is run entirely by the Democrats is looking to shift blame.
They are looking to demand telecom records that are related to Trump administration figures. While the demand has yet to be made, they are definitely planning to make this move sooner rather than later. Why would they decide to leak all of this information now? It’s beyond obvious.
When in doubt, blame Trump! He hasn’t been in office for most of this year but that has not stopped the Democrats from hauling his pinata out of the closet to give it a few whacks when needed. They’d better be careful, though. There’s only so many swings that you can take before that candy stops coming out.
“Our exclusive reporting today for @CNN-> the 1/6 Committee set to ask for the preservation of phone records from several members of Congress and members of the Trump family. We outlined who the committee is interested in on @CNNNewsroom w/ @JimSciutto,” Ryan Nobles tweeted. CNN is prepared to run with this baton as far as the White House will let them carry it.

It’s really that amazing. Of course, CNN has more on this story that they are trying to help create:
“The House Select Committee investigating the deadly January 6 riot is set to request that a group of telecommunications companies preserve the phone records of a group of GOP members of Congress and former President Donald Trump, as well as members of the Trump family, who played some role in the “Stop the Steal” rally that served as the prelude to the Capitol insurrection.
The records request is the first step in the committee’s investigatory process and could signal the direction they plan to go when they call witnesses.
It is unclear what means the committee will use to compel the telecommunications companies to cooperate with their request. The committee does have subpoena power, but requesting the information — especially from members of Congress — could lead to a lengthy legal battle.
The committee decided against making public the names of the lawmakers whose records they are targeting, three sources told CNN. But multiple sources familiar with the committee’s work have confirmed for CNN at least part of list including many of the members of Congress included in the request.”
This shouldn’t be news to anyone. The Democrats were always going to go after the telecom records as soon as they felt like they had no other choice. Since no subpoena has been issued yet, we are skeptical that they have any real plans to proceed. At this point, they are floating the idea on a trial basis to see if they can get anyone else on board. We doubt that it works.
There’s not much here for the Democrats to work with and even if they are looking to change subjects, that is not going to work anyway. The House Democrats know that they have to protect Sleepy Joe at all costs. The committee is being manipulative and they are only acting out of political interest. If they were at all serious here, the commission would allow the facts to speak for themselves.
If they want to distract voters from the facts that are being presented, facts that show that Biden has botched this withdrawal about as badly as possible, they are in for a long, hard fight. This is not their best effort and they need to head back to the drawing board. This is not the best look for them and it only makes the party look like they are absolutely desperate for a quick fix.
