Since the start of COVID-19 Dr. Anthony Fauci has reveled in the massive media attention. It seems like any time he is asked to speak he shows up and presents the medical information. While he has been the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for some time now, it was only since COVID that he got any real attention, and it hasn’t been a great thing for him to have.
Now in his eyes, Ukraine is ready to become another epicenter for diseases and problems. Tuberculosis is a serious disease, but it also has largely been reduced or eradicated in many countries. Ukraine however is not one of them. While conducting an interview with The Telegraph he explained how Ukraine has the potential to unleash a massive tuberculosis outbreak.
“As a public health official, as a scientist, and as an infectious disease expert, I’m very worried about the disruption that has already happened and that will continue… Hospitals being moved to cellars, clinics having to close, are going to have a terrible impact on TB and any other diseases – HIV, infectious disease of children…[The war] is going to interrupt the vaccine programs of kids, this is going to be a really terrible public health tragedy – in addition to a terrible tragedy of life lost in war.”
Looking at the numbers, Ukraine is home to an average of 30,000 new cases of TB per year. This is in large part to the presence of one of the highest rates of multidrug-resistant TB in the world. All in all, this places Ukraine in 4th place for TB within the WHO European region of 53 countries. In part, this is all coming down to getting the medication and the treatments where they have been needed for some time.
Dr. Fauci’s insistence on being in the limelight and telling the story is something that the American people are used to, but not fond of. His way of explaining things, and pushing people that were are always the ones at fault is horrific. As the director at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, he has the capabilities to get things done on a global scale to help curb these problems.
Yet he does little to bring attention to these problems except to complain when a TV camera is in his face. When he’s been caught with ethics violations or questionable testing procedures/use of funding, he just appears and changes the topics. The man is a magician at controlling a conversation and getting the tables turned in his favor. It honestly explains how he has stayed in these positions for such a long time.
Dr. Mike Ryan, head of the WHO’s emergencies program had his comments on the situation published earlier the week prior. “Anytime you disrupt society like this and put literally millions of people on the move, infectious disease will exploit that. People are packed together, they’re stressed, they’re not eating, not sleeping properly. They’re highly susceptible [to disease].”
This explanation makes sense, and it’s even funnier that this small comment is the root of the entire rant Dr. Fauci went on for his version. The doctor who wants to do something to fix the situation puts it very simply and directly. The one who wants to fix the situation gets down to the point and fast, the one who just wants to treat the symptoms and get paid drags it out and makes sure everyone hears about it. We need more fix-it people handling things here in the US, and fewer people like Dr. Fauci.
