President Zelenskyy Reveals the Horrors of Russia’s Invasion

War is never a pretty picture. There will always be stories of horrible deeds that were done to innocent people. But when those deeds are proven by undeniable evidence, there can be no doubt that the nation responsible deliberately crossed a line and committed acts of violence against civilians trying to avoid being killed by an invading force. Vladimir Putin and his quest for power have done the unthinkable, and now people are calling for him to stand trial.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy released evidence that Russian soldiers committed acts of violence and abused the fundamental human rights of the Ukrainian people. And Zelenskyy is demanding that the United Nations Security Council do something about it immediately.

The Ukrainian president took the time to tour a city devastated, on purpose, while the Russian army was retreating. The foreign invaders killed civilians and did things to them that violated human rights.

Zelensky stated that “They shot and killed women outside their houses when they just tried to call someone … They killed entire families, adults and children and they tried to burn the bodies. I am addressing you on behalf of the people who honor the memory of the deceased every single day and in the memory of the civilians who died, who were shot and killed in the back of their head after being tortured.”

The kind of world that Putin and his allied friends want to create is seen in Bucha, a suburb of Kyiv, Ukraine. Those forced to live under communism fear for their lives every day. They are afraid to speak up because they know that the government will find them and torture them to death to get them to shut their mouths.

Many communist countries started with socialism as the fundamental premise for running a country. But what transpired over time is that the people had to be controlled, and the only way to ensure loyalty was to use force.

Zelenskyy outlined some of the things that the Russian forces did. He stated that “Some of them were shot on the streets. Others were thrown into wells, so they died there suffering. They were killed in their apartments, houses, blown up by grenades. Civilians were crushed by tanks while sitting in their cars in the middle of the road, just for their pleasure. They cut off limbs, slashed their throats. Women were raped and killed in front of their children. Their tongues were pulled out only because the aggressor did not hear what they wanted to hear from them. This is not different from other terrorists such as ISIS. And here it is done by a member of the United Nations Security Council.”

The accusations made by Zelenskyy put the United Nations in a difficult spot. The very nation that performed such horrific acts sits on the council. They are supposed to be a force that supports peace and will defend it against evil. But this time around, they were the evil aggressor that needed to be stopped. The integrity of the United States stands in the balance.

The Ukrainian president is seeking the removal of Russia from the security council because of what they did to innocent people. Zelenskyy is adamant that the entire force needs to be shut down if the United Nations does not take action. It will have outlasted its purpose since the last time the world was at war.

Russia may act as if they care about fundamental human rights, but the actions during this war tell a different story. Putin has already threatened the U.N. with war if they so much as interfere in the war. And one may think that the United Nations even cares, but time will tell whether or not they can take a stand and kick the Russian delegates out of their seats.

The type of government that operates in Russia gives way to violence. Putin is trying to set himself as a dictator of a powerful country. He needs the resources in Ukraine to make his dream come true. But he did not expect things to be complicated. He will fail because the Ukrainian people are determined to keep their country free.
