The Obama phone lives on, but in a much different manner. Instead of giving a lifeline phone to lower-income Americans as his former boss did, Biden has, instead, been handing them out to illegals who are caught crossing over the border. Now, his White House press secretary Jen Psaki is having to answer the questions about what is going on with this situation, but she has little she can say that could even remotely make this sound like a smart idea.
When pressed by Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy about the issue her response was to avoid any real answer at all costs. “I think you, of all people, since you’ve asked me a range of questions on this topic over time, would recognize that we need to take steps to ensure that we know where individuals are and we can track, and we can check in with them.”
Unfortunately for Psaki, this isn’t an out-of-town family member out exploring the city that we might follow up with. It isn’t even a friend from out of the country who is considering moving here that we need to be keeping tabs on. These are people looking to come here illegally and to profit from the soft hiring practices at many companies here in the U.S.
Granted, it’s nearly impossible to blame them for being soft on these hiring practices. Since the President and the rest of the immigration officials seem to think that keeping our borders secure is a big joke and something that we should just let go of, why should they be concerned when these workers only help their bottom line and help control the pricing model? When immigration is giving them a heads up on upcoming raids, the fines for undocumented workers are ignored, and many are working on stolen social security numbers, there is no reason to care.
These phones represent a whole new way of just letting people go. While Psaki claims that they are for helping them to check in with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Allowing them to just be cut loose and on their way with their lives is not how this should go. The only instructions they are being given are to keep the phone on them and to contact ICE when they get settled.
Along with this, they are claiming that they can verify the person on the other end telephonically via voice ID. Never mind the fact that any government automated system cannot tell the difference between two and twenty-two, these systems will certainly be even more easily fooled. This alternative to detention is a joke, and something they cannot control very easily, despite their thoughts that they can.
There is one thing they can use these phones and other ones like them for, and that’s monitoring the border. Tablets and cell phones have been used for facial identification and retina scanning in Iraq and Afghanistan. The same technology would be very useful along the border, but only if they are taking detention seriously.
Doocy threw Psaki another curveball by simply asking the question that anyone with half a brain is curious about; what happens if they throw them out? Psaki’s reply was simply childish at best. “Do you have a record of people throwing phones away? Our concern is ensuring individuals who irregularly migrate to the United States proceed through our process of being monitored.”
It’s interesting that she caught herself saying illegally, and instead said irregularly. Almost as if she believes that the people sneaking over the border are going back every few months for holidays or funerals, then just coming back over. The only ones doing illegal border jumping back and forth are the drug mules and coyotes. If Biden wants to seriously do something about it, he can put them in the for-profit prison system since the left is trying to empty the jails anyways.
