Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) hasn’t exactly taken to the mold of Governor after falling into the seat unexpectedly. Her statements and awkward way of phrasing things often leave a lot to be desired. Invited to speak in an interview before a conference of businessmen in California, they focused on the potential economic opportunities with artificial intelligence in low-income communities. That’s where she stuck her foot deep down her throat.
“Right now, we have young Black kids growing up in the Bronx who don’t even know what the word computer is. They don’t know, they don’t know these things,” said Hochul. The packed room at the Milken Institute Global Conference had many who seemed a bit dismayed by the response, but the interviewer rolled right on. Many fellow politicians in New York were immediately outraged with her remarks. Yet right on cue, the Democrats have come out on the defensive with Hochul trying to walk back the remarks in a Biden-like way.
“Of course Black children in the Bronx know what computers are — the problem is that they too often lack access to the technology needed to get on track to high-paying jobs in emerging industries like AI. That’s why I’ve been focused on increasing economic opportunity since Day One of my Administration and will continue that fight to ensure every New Yorker has a shot at a good-paying job.”
Never mind the fact that many rural parts of New York still lack high-speed internet or even basic shopping for the types of tools needed to access AI opportunities. Her claim that “every New Yorker has a shot at a good-paying job,” largely happens only when they leave the state. The very few who do make it in NY and achieve such a job find themselves paying a substantial percentage of that “good pay” in taxes and an overinflated cost of living.
This woman is just another in a long line of Democrats who forget that New York is more than the boroughs of NYC, the Capital city of Albany, and the Buffalo Bills. Hopefully, New Yorkers get this racist liberal out of office.
