It feels like a distant memory when Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) was under scrutiny from both sides of the aisle for his unconventional Senate attire, a style that was later sanctioned by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) when he relaxed the dress code last September to accommodate Fetterman’s preference for what some critics labeled as “sloppy casual.”
As followers of RedState might remember, Fetterman made history as the first Senator to preside over the Senate in gym shorts and a crumpled, short-sleeved button-down shirt.
Fast forward nine months, and while Fetterman still alternates between traditional suits and his casual wear, his latest ensemble merges both styles.

Do you see the tie being tied directly around the neck? And the hoodie UNDER the sports coat?
This hybrid outfit has ignited a flurry of reactions on Twitter/X, with some users criticizing the look for its lack of formality, while others found humor in it. Igor Bobic humorously remarked, “Not even Usher can pull this off.”
Since the October 7th Hamas terrorist attacks, there has been a noticeable shift in Fetterman’s demeanor and political stance. He has distanced himself from his previous progressive label, echoing Ronald Reagan in a recent statement: “I’m not a progressive, I just identified myself as a regular Democrat,” Fetterman told CNN’s Dana Bash. “Now, eight years ago, I was a progressive, but the situation’s changed and I‘ve been very clear that I didn‘t leave that label. That label [left] me…”
Despite these changes, Fetterman’s latest fashion choice—the hoodie and tie under a suit—has not been warmly received. Coupled with the current heatwave, the outfit choice seems particularly ill-advised.
While Fetterman’s political shifts may be winning some approval, his sartorial decisions remain a hot topic of debate. Whether or not this will impact his political career remains to be seen, but it’s clear that his wardrobe choices continue to stir conversation.
Something really has to be done about his fashion sense. It’s a disgrace to the nation.
