A member of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, sponsored by former President Obama, will now be spending life in prison for the cold-blooded murders of three Americans.
Originally hailing from Mexico, the 27-year-old murdered his former roommates 38-year-old Steven Marler, and 23-year-old Josh Hampton back in November 2018. With 21-year-old Sabrina Starr behind the wheel as his getaway driver, Luis Perez waited only days until he turned his attention to her. Adding insult to injury, Starr had been dating Hampton before his murder.
This heinous crime could have easily been prevented if it hadn’t been for the leftist bail policies in conjunction with DACA.
Back in late 2017, Perez was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, assault, and child abuse in Middlesex County, New Jersey. With Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) requesting to take custody of him and send him back to Mexico, the “sanctuary city” policies ensured that he was allowed to return to the community instead.
When he was released, ICE was given no heads up on when or where he would be let go, nor where he was heading. At the time, Middlesex County officials claimed that the request went unfulfilled due to an issue with the way ICE filled out their request, not because of their “illegals safety first” policies. Subsequently, ICE performed a five-day sweep of the county and arrested 37 illegals, with 16 of them being recent graduates of the Middlesex County in-and-out jail.
While it’s certainly a shame they didn’t catch him then, it’s almost as insulting that he had failed to file his 2016 DACA registration, and they still let him stay here. Given his previous filings back in 2012 and 2014, he knew what he needed to do to receive those protections and did nothing. The ICE system should have swept him up then, but they just let him run the streets.
Angel Mom Deborah Elkins, Hampton’s mother, spoke out about the heinous crime in October 2019, and in support of Sen. Ted Budd’s (R-NC) “Justice for Victims of Sanctuary Cities Act.” Her statements, while short, helped advance the cause. “I’m at the point where something has to be done. I don’t like cameras and I don’t like being in the public eye, but I would if it would bring Josh’s story to light and Steven’s.”
Now that Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has taken the speakership, many are hoping for meaningful change. However, nothing has been introduced in the House or the Senate so far, but it is a new session, so there is ample time for something to happen. With many Republicans looking to take control of our cities back under the righteous arm of the law, there is a lot of work to be done.
Opponents of fulfilling the US commitments to immigration law love to tout DACA as some big wonderous program. They believe that it has not only allowed illegals to stay in their “home” but that it gives them the best options in their life. The truth of the matter is that it is still a violation of the law. It tends to encourage criminal activity and inspires the idea of being untouchable.
Holding the illegal’s feet to the fire and ensuring they are sent back home when they are caught is the easiest way to lower our crime statistics across the country. With these catch-and-release programs that Biden wants to make the standard nationwide, we will see many more people like Perez popping up in the news.
These illegals aren’t afraid of going back. Rather, they are afraid of the competition back in their home countries. They are afraid of the real consequences if they return. While many claim to not speak their native tongue, they are all raised in households that speak it, so they do too. This lie of only speaking English plays right into the liberal game plan and destroys American lives.
